In the summer of 1980, thanks to the help of his son, Teddy won a prestigious pigeon race.

In 1983 Teddy attempted to commit suicide by taking a drugs overdose whilst staying at the Crest Hotel, Eastleigh, Hampshire.

Teddy has since described his attempted suicide as a honorable act.
